Completion of Your Current Program with a Specified Average & Confirmation of Degree Conferred

Two elements are required to satisfy this condition:

  1. Proof you have obtained the specified average.
  2. Proof you have received your degree.

You must arrange to have an official transcript forwarded to us once you have completed all your courses (and any other program requirements). The transcript must show all final grades and indicate that you have received your degree. Typically, degree conferral appears on a transcript after your convocation ceremony. If the transcript does not indicate conferral of the degree, the condition will not be satisfied and you will be required to forward us an updated transcript.

If you have completed your program requirements but will not be receiving your degree until after your OISE program begins (e.g. finishing in the summer and convocating in November), you must arrange to have two documents forwarded to us:

  1. An official transcript showing all final grades.
  2. An official statement from your Registrar’s Office stating that all degree requirements are complete; you are eligible to graduate; and the expected date on which the degree will be conferred.

Official transcripts are secure electronic records sent by the issuing institution either directly from their institutional website or through an authorized/licensed third-party provider (such as Credentials Solutions, Parchment), or paper records received by the Registrar's Office & Student Experience in a sealed envelope, signed/stamped by the issuing institution.

Additional Considerations

You are not required to submit an official transcript showing final grades and degree conferral because your record is accessible to us. We will automatically review it when convocation ceremonies are finished (typically end of June).

If you want to clear your condition of admission beforehand, when your record shows all final grades, an official statement from your Registrar’s Office is required and must state:

  • all degree requirements are complete;
  • you are eligible to graduate; and
  • the expected date on which the degree will be conferred.

Students in an MA degree program at the University of Toronto who have been offered admission to a PhD degree program conditional on completion of the Master's program may be eligible for dual registration for one session in both degree programs under specified circumstances.

Review the  for information. A request for dual registration status must be submitted in writing to the Registrar's Office & Student Experience at admissions.oise@utoronto.ca.

To ensure teaching subject prerequisites are satisfied, all courses in progress at the time of application must be successfully completed. Applicable in-progress courses may be part of a degree program or non-degree study. If all in-progress courses are not completed, your offer of admission may be revised or cancelled.

Provide an Official Copy of an Academic Record

An official transcript from each and every post-secondary institution attended must be part of your student file. Make arrangements to provide us with the specified transcript.

Official transcripts are secure electronic records sent by the issuing institution either directly from their own institutional website or through an authorized/licensed third party provider (such as Credentials Solutions, Parchment), or paper records received by the Registrar's Office & Student Experience in a sealed envelope, signed/stamped by the issuing institution.

If an official transcript is substantially different from the electronic document submitted at the time of application, you will be contacted.

Additional Considerations

To ensure teaching subject prerequisites are satisfied, all courses in-progress at the time of application must be successfully completed. Applicable in-progress courses may be part of a degree program or non-degree study. If all in-progress courses are not completed, your offer of admission may be revised or cancelled.

Present Your Original Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Diplomas

This condition typically requires you (or an individual you designate) to visit the Registrar's Office & Student Experience to present the required documents. Please bring your offer of admission letter for reference. Documents presented will be reviewed and a copy added to your student file. Do not mail or courier original diplomas to us.

For credentials awarded by universities in China (after 1992), two documents are applicable: a degree certificate and a graduation certificate.

Note: The is a Ministry of Education authorized qualification verification institution in China offering digital administration and services for student enrollment, student record and qualification management. The CSSD Official Online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate equates to presentation of degree certificate and graduation certificate and satisfies this condition of admission.

English Language Translation

If an English language translation is necessary, it will be indicated in your offer letter. Generally, a certified English translation of all international documentation written in a language other than English or French is required. A translation must include a copy of the document on which the translation is based. The Registrar's Office & Student Experience must receive a certified official translation in a sealed envelope, signed/stamped by an accredited Translation Service.

Additional Considerations

An alternative to in-person presentation is to provide us with the following original notarized documents:

  1. Statement with your full name, date of birth, and current address confirming original Bachelor's and/or Master's degree diploma(s) were presented to, and reviewed by, the Notary Public.
  2. Photocopy of Bachelor's and/or Master's degree diploma(s).

A notarized document is one reviewed and certified/stamped by a Notary Public (or equivalently sanctioned individual). It must include the name and original signature (or stamp) of the Notary Public, plus the date produced, and that date must be current.

Only original notarized documents will fulfill the condition of admission (electronically transmitted documents are not acceptable).
