Information Security Incident Update
Date Posted: Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 5:10 pm
A careful forensic investigation into the information security incident involving OISE servers has now identified those individuals (mainly alumni) whose personal information may have been exposed. Notification letters are being sent starting today – only individuals whose personal information may have been exposed will receive a notification letter.
To prevent future incidents, we have changed all administrative passwords for the systems and reset them. We have also installed next-generation anti-virus software for all staff and faculty computers for enhanced protection, re-built and re-secured impacted servers (and decommissioned others), and rebuilt OISE’s printing services. Expect to hear more from us in the future about educational efforts to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
There is no indication that this incident has extended beyond OISE. Unfortunately, governments, international corporations and public institutions around the world are being targeted by cyber criminals. We are constantly assessing and improving measures to safeguard data for our community in a digital world. If you have questions, please contact oise.info@utoronto.ca. We will endeavour to respond within three business days.
