Entrance Awards

There are entrance awards available through generous contributions of our donors.

Eligible Master of Teaching candidates are welcome to apply for the following awards as part of their admission application:

The M. Penelope Carter Award

Award Type: Merit and Financial Need


To be considered for the award, candidates must satisfy the following qualifying criteria:

  • Must have completed a Bachelors degree program from the University of Toronto with a Major or Specialist in English with good academic standing.
  • Must apply for admission to the MT Intermediate / Senior Division (Grades 7-12) choosing English as one of the teachable subjects.  (Note: Completion of six full-year university courses in English is required for first-choice teaching subject, and completion of three full-year university courses in English is required for second-choice teaching subject).
  • Must demonstrate financial need, especially related to family responsibilities

Master of Teaching program candidates who meet the specified criteria must complete the awards section of the admission application. The must be completed. When the form is completed, you will be given a "FNA Reference number". Please make note of this number.  When prompted, on the online admission application, enter the supplied FNA reference number. 

Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Peterson Memorial Entrance Award

Award Type: Merit and Financial Need


To be considered for the award, candidates must satisfy the following qualifying criteria:

  • Must have completed a Bachelor鈥檚 degree program with good academic standing.
  • Must apply for admission to the MT Intermediate / Senior Division (Grades 7-12) choosing Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science-General as one of the teachable subjects. (Note: teachable subject prerequisite requirements for the Intermediate-Senior division).
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to conservation and activities providing preparation for career in teaching.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

Master of Teaching program candidates who meet the specified criteria must complete the awards section of the admission application.  The  must be completed. When the form is completed, you will be given a "FNA Reference number". Please make note of this number.  When prompted, on the online admission application, enter the supplied FNA reference number.  

Roseann Runte Award

Award Type: Merit and Financial Need


To be considered for the award, candidates must satisfy the following qualifying criteria:

  • Must have completed a Bachelor鈥檚 degree program with good academic standing.
  • Must apply for admission to the Master of Teaching Program.
  • Must show evidence of commitment to pursuing a career in education.
  • Must demonstrate promise as an educational leader.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

Master of Teaching program candidates who meet the specified criteria must complete the awards section of the admission application. The  must be completed. When the form is completed, you will be given a "FNA Reference number". Please make note of this number.  When prompted, on the online admission application, enter the supplied FNA reference number.  

Keith and Leta Torrie Scholarship

Award Type: Merit


To be considered for the award, candidates must satisfy the following qualifying criteria:

  • Must have completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program from the University of Toronto with a Major or Specialist in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (or a closely related discipline such as Astronomy or Statistics) with good academic standing.
  • Must apply for admission to the MT Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate division.
